End of Life

We are sorry for your loss, if you have lost a loved one, and want to be in touch about arranging a funeral or a memorial service in church, or maybe you would like us to pray for your departed loved one in church, or to come in and light a candle. May your loved one rest in perfect peace.

Everyone in our parish (check if you live in the parish here) has the right to ask for a Church of England funeral in St Peter’s Church, or for us to conduct your funeral at a crematorium or cemetery. You will need to contact us either by emailing office@stpeterswalworth.org or by ringing 020 7740 6868 (you will usually need to leave a message). You can also find the clergy after the 10.30am Parish Mass on Sundays. You will also need to find a funeral director: you may already have one in mind, or we can help you find one locally. The Church of England sets a fee for funerals which we can explain, or the funeral director will discuss them with you.

If you or someone you know is close to the end of life and would like a priest to visit and pray, offer the anointing of the sick, Confession and Holy Communion, please email Father Andrew here.

Here is a prayer of comfort you could say:

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who watch or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake.

Amen.
