A wedding could be a small, intimate occasion with just a couple of witnesses and close family/friends

Costs…

There are costs, and they are slightly complicated. Some relate to the Church of England fees for getting married in church, some are for blessings and other services, and some are for things which are all optional extras like organists, bell ringing, flowers, etc. We have put them together in one place for you to look at here, and if you would like to have a service here at St Peter’s a member of the clergy will go through everything with you and answer all your practical questions!

Weddings & Blessings

At St Peter’s we love sharing your joy and working with couples to celebrate your love in church! This could be from a small blessing of a relationship for an anniversary or coming together, through to a huge elaborate wedding celebration or blessing after the register office.

There are some complicated rules about all of this, so the easiest thing is to get in touch and have a chat with us! You can find the clergy after the 10.30am Parish Mass on Sundays and just come and say hello, or come on a Monday evening after the 7pm Mass which finishes around 7.35pm.

If you would like to get married in St Peter’s Church there are some Church of England rules that we have to follow: currently marriage in church is only open to opposite sex couples who live within the parish boundaries (put your postcode in here to check) or who attend St Peter’s Church regularly for worship; or who have a legal qualifying connection such as a parent having married at St Peter’s or a parent or one of the couple having lived in the parish previously (please check the full list here). It’s a bit complicated, and we are sad that we can’t yet welcome all couples equally to marriage, because St Peter’s is an inclusive church where we value LGBTQIA+ people in the same way we value everyone - the Church of England is making steps towards equal marriage, but we are not quite there yet, sadly.
